Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the Obadiah Fund need more money?

There are three reasons: 1) As the number of retired ministers and minister’s widows has increased, the
amount distributed by the Fund is exceeding its earnings, thus the Fund’s principal is declining. 2) The
number of retired ministers/widows is projected to increase significantly over the next 15 years. 3)
Inflation has pushed up the cost of living by 17% from 2021-2023, yet the yearly distribution to retirees
has remained the same.

Can I donate from my IRA?

Yes, it is easy and often very tax efficient to donate directly from an IRA (Traditional or Roth). Different
rules apply if you are over age 70 1/2. Please contact us for help thinking through what will make most
sense in your particular circumstances.

Can I give shares of stock or mutual funds?

Yes, and particularly if you have shares which have appreciated significantly in value, or shares for
which you don’t know the original cost, this is an excellent giving strategy. Your shares should be
donated to the OPC first, using our partner The Barnabas Foundation. Please contact us for assistance.

Can someone help me determine the most tax-efficient way to give?

The Committee on Ministerial Care has a team of volunteer financial planners who are familiar with
different giving options and tax strategies. We are happy to explore options with you, and also to
interface with your accountant/tax preparer if appropriate.

How much of my donation will actually go to retired ministers and their widows?

100% of your donation will benefit our retired ministers and their widows. Any administrative expenses
associated with the Obadiah Fund and the current fundraising campaign are covered by the Committee
on Ministerial Care.

Can I pledge to give over several years?

Yes, we are happy to accept non-binding pledges to give over multiple years. Especially if you desire to
make a large gift, there are often compelling tax reasons to spread your gift over more than one tax year.

Can I give from my Donor Advised Fund?

Yes. Instruct your DAF to make the gift to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (Willow Grove, PA) and be
sure to specifiy “Obadiah Fund”.

Can I donate property or business assets?

In most cases, yes. This would be accomplished through our partnership with The Barnabas
Foundation. Please contact us for more information.

What is the goal of this campaign?

We are seeking to raise $2,500,000. If God blesses in this way, CMC believes the Fund will be
financially self-sustaining AND we will be able to provide annual cost of living increases to the Fund’s
recipients.
